Hawaii Island Heart of Palm Company at Hamakua Farms

Your farmer, Brian, has lived on the Big Island of Hawaii since 1979 and has worked the soil of Hamakua Farms since 1983. He is a 4th generation farmer who found his passion growing fresh produce for you. Since 2001, he has focused his attention on hearts of palm, seeking a more sustainable agricultural product. Growing in lush volcanic soil and watered by rainwater, Brian grows his palms as a year-round, self-regenerative crop, as each palm stump regrows for future harvests and discarded leaves fertilize the soil.

Hearts of palm are an extremely adaptable vegetable that could be incorporated in any kind of cuisine. Their firm and crisp texture is well suited to a variety of preparations, including sliced, julienned, or in ribbon strips, that can be used in as many ways as you can imagine. They are also delicious cooked: they can be boiled to create a versatile heart of palm soup or, when baked, become reminiscent of an artichoke heart. They can even be used to create a broth that can be used for anything, including braising, poaching, or even as an ice cream.

Samples are available upon request. Orders start at a minimum of 10 pounds. Brian harvests every Sunday and ships your order directly to you, anywhere in the US, every Monday. Orders must be placed by Saturday and arrive on the following Wednesday.
